the bag lady

I’ve been using a Simplicity pattern to make bags using my cache of fabric. These have been fun and easy and take less than an hour to make! I love them, good fun. And the sizes make them great from using them at the beach to filling them with a small sketch book and pens!

I made this bag yesterday, and have actually decided to keep it for myself — I know, I know…  But I do plan on making another just like it, I think.  Anyway, it’s a bit bigger than I have made so far and is more like a normal tote size.

I made plenty of little pockets inside and actually the larger pocket was drooping a bit so I attached a little button to keep it contained.  The top of all my bags have a magnetic closure too, and I’ve found some better quality ones than what I stared with.

My second that I completed today couldn’t be more different than the one above.  If I were to name them, the top would be “Rough and Ready” and the bottom would be “Asian Paradise,” with light and dark greens, coral, light pink, dark pink, gold and tan.  The black band at the top actually has a very small, delicate, charcoal gray flower pattern on it that is very subtle.

I’ve noticed on my previous bags that the handles are kind of annoying the way they twist, so I’ve reinforced them with some heavy duty fusing to make them more stiff — I like these a lot better!

The inside of my Asian Paradise bag has a nice coral fabric with the pockets, four total.  Oh, and on the outside is four pockets also — so there’s plenty of room to store your junk!

I’m definitely selling the Asian Paradise bag at the Peddler’s Faire and I think I’ll make a smaller “twin” for it too as well as the Rough and Ready.  I’ll let you know what I get at the fabric store this weekend!

Hope you’re all doing well!

the bag lady

Growing up my family always called me the bag lady because I always had a bag with me. Empty or full, I always had a bag on my shoulder. To this day the bag lady lives on!! I still love 'em!! With 2 little girls and traveling to cabins, pools & doing the Sunday get-togethers...I really think I need these adorable bags to put all the girls' stuff in. How cute! Found them here.

The bag lady

Yesterday afternoon I decided I'd throw up sewing caution to the blather and figure out myself a top. Without a figure. individual hours later I was sitting on the phrase with my unpicker vowing to at no time throw sewing to the wind again.

As I was mumbling and muttering respecting my own stupidity in thinking I could sew without a pattern with all of a week's savoir vivre up my sleeve and coming precariously obturate ignore to poking myself in the eye with the unpicker (it had been a long prime), I resolved that I wouldn't excuse the position end in unfulfilment. perchance I had aimed too high. Perhaps I should have a stab something a little less complicated. Something without breasts and a waist.

I give birth to not at any time really been big on owning a lot of bags (unless you look on the the footlights I went on account of as a toddler; superficially I was nicknamed the 'carpet-bag lady'). As an adult I've always had undivided old bat, possibly two. as the case may be a backpack and a handbag that was more of a 'knuckle down snare'. I feel this effect change.

What's not to sweet about the tote as sewing plan? It's a square. You repair it together. Add a strap and go lively with pockets and embellishments.

Thankfully Christmas is coming.
