Pack Light:
The 100ml Curse
It’s no surprise that in this day and age, after the countless airline problems Northern America has seen, that airline regulations are a bit…tight, but at what point will travelers say enough is enough? Our society, although having it’s issues, was always prone in being that of a logical, unlocked door, worry free caring society, but as of 2010 this is not the case. Canadian airlines newly updated flight “Do’s and Don’ts” list has everything you need to know when flying in or out of Canada. Which leads to the question, why not just ban everything? A lot of these items are fairly vague or inconsequential, others seem to contradict each other a bit (at least in principal) such as; you are not allowed to bring Items on board that look like weapons but are not weapons (e.g., perfume bottles shaped like a grenade), but you can bring a whip.
Now to me that seems a little inconsistent, on the one hand you have something that it states in the definition is NOT a weapon, just something that looks like a weapon, while on the other hand you have a weapon that has so much force it can break the sound barrier. I’m not bringing this up to annoy any poor employee just doing their job, I’m more jesting at the fact that security has become so tight it takes 3 hours to get on a ½ hour flight. Part real threat, part over protecting ourselves, I just miss the days when your kids could play in the front yard without fear. The logic is there, we want to be safe, but patting down 300+ passengers to me doesn’t seem to be the answer.
