NY Kindness
Wednesday, July 15, 2008: I have always loved this city and what happened today has made me love it even more. I was walking (or struggling) with my heavy duty homeless bags around the Upper East Side and a woman approached me. May I help you, she asked. Yes, I would like to go as far as Central Park. She was going to Lexington. We started talking and I told her my story. Just before we got to Third and 72, she said that what I needed was acart for all my stuff. I was not going to be able to manage with all the bags by myself. So we went to Gracious Home on East 70th, and she bought me a large cart to put everything in. I was more than grateful to her and told her so. My life has been bad but now it's good, she answered. I will never forget this gesture, not only bevause it came at a time when a cart was something I really needed, but because it shows kindnesss at its best.
