About 12 hours of work from many volunteers and we have 20 bags to donate to a local charity to help out some kids.  I kinda like sewing…might do some more soon.

I’m looking for a purse that is big enough to carry my phone, my wallet, my iPod, my planner, a novel, a small notebook, my keys, and my huge tub of Carmex, but is smaller than an overnight bag. I don’t want a weird amorphous sack with a drawstring and giant grommets, which is unfortunate, because these are oozing off the racks at every store. It has to close well enough to protect my stuff from a small amount of rain. I like structure, pockets and compartments, and a thick shoulder strap. I hate contrasting topstitching, giant logos, and overly shiny hardware. I would like it to be a fun color, but it has to be versatile enough to not look out of place with any of my nonfancy outfits. I’m thinking camel or cognac leather (or pleather), or pale blue or mustard yellow canvas. Here are some examples of bags I don’t hate:

I can’t afford any of these purses. The cheapest one is $235, and the one I want the most is almost two thousand dollars. Even if I had an extra two thousand dollars, I wouldn’t spend it on a purse. What I want is something similar to these purses, but under thirty bucks. I would be willing to pay more if it were handmade. My friend got an awesome leather bag at the first Picnic in 2008, but he couldn’t remember the name of the person who made it. If anyone reading this knows who was selling those gorgeous leather bags, please let me know so that I can end my search for a cheap knockoff. In the meantime, I will scour thrift shops and wait for Marshall’s and T.J. Maxx to stock some handbags that don’t look like blobs with chain straps.

Not too many years ago, this was a common sight in many bathrooms across the country. Now, even on the Internet, the good old-fashioned enema bag is a bit hard to find. Sure, colonic irrigation is the gold standard for colon cleansing, but for cost, convenience and effectiveness, these funny-looking bags are pretty hard to beat.

If you are “into” enemas, this image will probably put a smile on your face. If you are new to this whole thing, you are probably thinking “gawd – that is a grotesque looking thing” and maybe even cause you a little shudder.

But if you have an anus -or  you are friendly with someone that does – you need to own one of these. This handy little item can cure constipation instantly, completely cleanse the colon with just a little bit of work, and with a close friend can be a ton of fun.  The best part is that once you own one, you can use it as much as you like for FREE.

A good enema bag will hold two to three quarts of water and last you a lifetime with care. I much prefer this type rather than the red “hot water bottle” as you can see how much is left inside, it is easy to dry, it stores and travels nicely, and can be refilled easily through the open top.

France’s First Lady, who will join her husband at the White House for dinner with the Obamas tonight, was photographed with Dior’s new “3D” bag while out and about in New York City over the weekend. For most women, a bag is definitely a portable office. A treasured accessory that follows a lady everywhere and it’s used to stash all the essentials right from the time-manager and stationery to make-up. Bags are fun, trendy and classic because their long life span; also mainly because they hardly go out of fashion the way clothes do especially if it’s made of real leather.You just have to give it to the ladies and their bags; there’s a variety of them. They come in different shapes, sizes and colours, each for different purposes and occassions. Bags are made of nylon, leather, patent leather, exotic skins, canvas or even fabrics, using decorative embellishments like crystals, precious tones and buckles, studs, rings or chains in gold, silver or copper finishes.

A sure way to switch up your look is to change you bad and there’s always a style for any look you’re looking to achieve. Here are a few style options below:

Structured - I call it the “firm,” well because it looks firm. It’s firm shape comes from the reinforced leather its made with. It can come with short straps enable you hold from your arm or long straps to wear over the shulder.

Clutch – People often refer to the clutch as a purse but its the same; being a type of bag. When worn appropiately, it can turn any outfit is a stunner.

Hobo – A hobo always has one strap, which goes on the shoulder and looks bohemian.

Satchel – it has a firm flat base with short double straps; often rectangular shaped.

Messenger - a rectangular bag with an adjustable strap that can be worn over the shoulder but mostly diagonally across the body. It’s mostly worn by men but the ladies can rock it just as good.

Finally, a great sense of style comes mostly from confidence and comfort in your creative appearance and the skin you’re in. That’s what being in “the spotlight” is all about.

I really want a new bag and I made the fatal mistake of browsing accessorize’s website this morning and now I have fallen in love with way to many bags. They are all so pretty and girlie and just gorgeous – shame they are so expensive too. Dam it, I need to be rich. I think I would own half of the shop if I had the momeny, everything there is lovely.

I realized today it’s time for a new bag! The stitching on my current one is starting to come undone just a little. My current bag is a Michael Kors that I got Christmas 2008. I have used it every-single-day and is just now starting to show some wear and tear, one of the many reasons why I love Michael Kors. His bags are always classic and include great colors, plus we share initials. I know fate when I see it! So I am going to put together my 2010 Michael Kors Wishlist.

MICHAEL Michael Kors Beverly Large Satchel, Gunmetal. Love this, I’m into all sorts of greys, but especially this gunmetal hue (other colors are available). Great size as well and it could go with any outfit. That is an important aspect for me when I buy a bag, I do not collect bags nor do I use different ones for different outfits. I like to buy one quality bag that I fall in love with and will be more than happy carrying around for the next year or two.

MICHAEL Michael Kors Hamilton Large Tote Vanilla White. The classic tote in classic white! For some reason this bag puts nautical images in my mind, I would definately need to carry this bag if I lived in a beach house. Is that just me?

MICHAEL Michael Kors “McLane” Shoulder Bag. It’s true, when in doubt black is the go-to option! My current MK bag is black, so I would like to switch it up in the future, but I think this bag would make a great every day staple.

While I will not being buying these anytime soon due to $$, I’m always looking for a good MK sale. Dilliards will often hold some sort of sale, so keep your eyes open.

Bags… They’re like shoes.

One is never enough and even if you put on or lose weight, you can still use it. Additionally, some bags make a statement about themselves easily enough. A good example would be the colourful Le Pliage Longchamp bags.

The colour speaks volumes about the bag owners’ personality and style, but leave a mysterious edge as to why the owner chose that bag. Is it because she likes the colour? Or is it because she wants bolder colours rather than subtle ones?

Let’s get to the point (finally).

I have to confess, I love bags.

I may not love all bags, but I’ve always been a bag person. I love bags ever since I was old enough to buy one for myself and have a huge plastic container filled with bags in Malaysia, and am buying one tomorrow for the bags I currently own in Perth. Staying in Perth for 2 years has not quelled the urge to buy bags. Just like how Carrie Bradshaw has a love for Manolo Blahnik’s, mine is a love for branded bags.

People may think it’s a frivolous way to spend money, but in my opinion, it’s an investment. What kind of bag can you use that lasts you 10 years? I have a Louis Vuitton Saleya, got it last September, and have been loving and using it since. I’ve carried all sorts of things in that bag and at one point, I swear the bag carried a range of picnic food! It has been with me through rain or shine and I have never looked back since selling my soul to famous and established international leather goods companies.

Oh, let’s not forget ice cream…

Admittedly, I never want to blog about bags because I don’t have a string of branded bags to show off, and I am no bag guru of any kind. Additionally, I don’t want people to think that I’m some bimbo or rich girl showing off. But bags are my interest and my love! Why bother with what people think? Why not talk about it, share, and inform rather than keep quiet about it? Starting from now on, I would love to share my love for bags with Y-O-U and bag lovers all around the world! There will be more bag posts to come!

PS: Just because I love bags, that doesn’t mean I buy them all. I would be broke!

Last night the lovely penelopewaits let me use her sewing machine to create two more christmas presents.

I had the idea of creating some cute little satchel style bags for my cousins who are 6 and almost 9. They’re still at an age where i like to do something the same but different at christmas, so I found the most adorable fabric in two different colour schemes and  then found 2 matching fabrics for each… Then i kinda worked out how i wanted the bags to look in my head and folded some paper to get a size.

At essie’s last night, I got some butcher paper and a quilter’s rule and cut out a nice series of rectangles. Es and her partner helped me decide on which fabric should go where and then i was left to my own devices… the result?

There are three sections – the main bag, a large front pocket and a little inside pocket (for lipbalm and precious things not mobile phones!!)

They have interfacing and are pretty stiff and any quilter or sewer would probably turn their nose up at my seams! The straps almost had to be a bit of an afterthought – i kinda didn’t think them through enough, but i really like the positioning and it means you can see all three fabrics from the front.

I made the pink bag first and there were many instances of dopey brain which resulted in unpicking and resewing, so it took me a lot longer than the second bag. All up from cutting patterns to finishing sewing, they took me about 4 and a half hours.

I <3 them and I hope my cousins will too!
