Felting Gone Wrong!

The Well Travelled Bag......... I cannot decide if I am disappointed or not with the result, yet.

I had wanted to make this pattern for a very long time

Waited a year until I found the grommets.

Really was feeling pleased after the pattern turned out to be no fuss at all.

Learnt to make the handles on the French Knitter with this great video

The  yarn has felted really nicely  and it took just one wash,Full Cycle.

What  I totally  wasn't expecting was that the colour would bleed!!!!

I had envisioned a bag similar to the  the beautiful bag in the pattern . But my fern green disappeared completely  and my bag  looked better unfelted

 I don't know where it went wrong, and I do have some scrap yarn to try again and find out.Maybe a smaller version.

The Patons I found here, worked so nicely that I used the same settings for this too. I wonder if I should have used a shorter cycle.

So the deed has been done.The more I look at it as I type, the I feel sad that it didn't turn out the way I was expecting it to. Still I don't completely dislike it.

Maybe I will try this  same pattern with the patons yarn  I  found here.A trip to the  Sewing store to check if they have any of  those Patons yarns left there still, is in order.

M has laid claim to it  already to put in his toys . And I may never use it so I gave it away happily.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 This winter has been really rough for M_ several doctor visits, loads of medicines,  that have made him weak still we hope he will get over this phase.Now that it is almost time for  M to  move over to  K.G in Spring,  I have decided to have him at home until his  health  improves a little .

The school admission process has started already.We had to get him vaccinated and give the medical papers to the school office on the 31st.Since he was sick the whole of last week, we could not give his vaccination but today. , the doc gave the green to get the BCG vaccination  TEST injection .

He was so brave about it.Never screamed or yelled, just clenched his teeth and cried silently_ Broke. My .Heart. _I mean if he had screamed and thrashed around, I wouldn't have hurt so much, but seeing him, sit there and trying to be brave and with just tears falling down his cheeks silently ,did it for me .

When it was over ,we all hugged him but he wanted only A to hold him. And told him through his tears "Annan it pained a lot" as A kissed away his tears and nodded.

Another milestone......sigh . sniff.

What a weekend . . .

I'm almost glad to be back at work!  So I went to Ice Castles.  Sad to say, it was kinda a bummer.  No one really spoke to us for the first 2 hours.  We ended up leaving early and going to my mom's on up the road.  Ate dinner with them for my mom's and grandpa's birthday.  That all came on the end of a very tiring week, so I ended up going to bed at probably 7:30 last night.  The first hour and half on the couch and the rest in the bed.  I'm feeling emotionally recharged now.  And I get most nights this week to catch up on cleaning and straightening.

On a knitting note, the Marsupial Reworked is halfway done.  I'm enjoying the speed at which it is going since it is going to be felted.  Big needles = speeeeed! (That last word said in a high pitched squirrel kind of voice)  Got another scarf done for the craft show and I need to design a sweet looking cable pattern for some of the felted bags I'm going to be doing.  Got some nice felting wool last Friday for these bags,  very excited about felting!

Otherwise, things are good.  I will be going house hunting this Sunday with Austin.  I hope to take some pictures.  Maybe hold a contest.  If you pick the correct house we end up buying, I'll send you yarn, or something like that.  I'm not starting it yet but keeping it in mind.  I am hoping by the end of February to have a working shop up for you to buy knit goodies.  Please let me know of any interest in that!  Thanks!!!

free or freeloading?

my boss and his awesome girlfriend went to england over christmas and new years. i, being the converted fashion fanatic, requested topshop jeans and promptly sent all the necessary information to aid them in the purchase-making process.

long story short. he wouldn't accept my reimbursement. she, too, said that there would either be death or a cut off from ever receiving topshop clothes ever again if i continued to force money onto him.

i feel compelled to devise some plan to sneak the money in somehow, but then i feel it risks being overly dramatic, this etiquette tug-of-war. it's kind of like disparaging yourself when someone's paid you a compliment--sometimes it's just better to say thank you and let it go ...i mean, he did throw a $20 at L when she wanted to go back up to the office to grab her cigarettes...it's amazing how generous people can be.

side note: I LOVE MY NEW TOPSHOP JEANS.

Homemade Quilting Projects Using Old Clothes

Well, I don't have a pattern as I have not quilted anything yet. My sister is quilting using our father's clothes and store bought fabric. Our father passed away a year-and-a-half ago, and she is making us memory pieces.

I was thinking that we could do different things with old clothes, and here are some ideas for fabric to use:

* Old Jeans would be great to use for boys, or cowgirls.

* Used baby clothes would be great for making baby things.

* Christmas clothing could be used for making holiday items. Likewise with other holidays.

Here are some ideas for projects:

* Quilts, lap quilts and wall quilts.

* Tote bags and purses.

* Curtains, drapes and blinds.

* Place mats, pot holders, coasters and oven mitts.

* Table runners and doilies.

* Tree skirts, stockings and ornaments.

* Pillow shams/cases, throw pillows.

* Quilted clothing for babies.

Where to get the old clothes:

* Anything that you or your children no longer want, or grow out of.

* Yard/garage sales.

* Dollar stores.

*Thrift shops.

These projects can all be done relatively frugally if done right.

Dear VS,

Dear Victoria Secret,

We have a love / hate relationship. I love your new cupcake line BUT boyshorts? It had to be boyshorts! I hate boyshorts. My thighs do not like boyshorts. Can a girl get some low rise bikinis instead? Please... please... please...

Ironically its because I eat cupcakes isn't it? Eh tu cupcakes?

ps. Thanks Ape for showing me cutesy cupcake underwear that hates my thighs.

QUESTION:Closet Pain

I got this question: "What does one do with a collection of nice pants that fit several years ago? Is there any going back? Are there any effective tactics for dealing with the remorse of seeing those pants every morning???"

My answer is this:  if they haven't fit in several years, chances are, without a true dedication to get back into them, they may not fit. And that's A-OKAY. Over time, our lives change and so do our bodies.  And they go bigger and smaller. But rather than being haunted over these pants that don't fit, give them to an organization like Dress for Success and revel in the fact that you get to buy new clothes!  The most important thing is to remember that it's sooooo not about what fits and doesn't.  We can find clothes to fit and make us look HOT in any size (and I know you - you're hot!).  It's more about just accepting how things have changed and being okay with it.

I want you to be okay with the changes and not torture yourself every time you open your closet.

There are plenty of things in life that cause pain - pants shouldn't be one of them.

Clean N’ Dirty

Know Your Clothes: Inside or Out

If you're anything like me, you've got a pile of clothes on the floor of your bedroom. Trouble is; you don't have a clue as to what's clean and what's dirty. Getting up in the morning you pick clothes at random from a gant pile that has yet to be sorted, folded, washed, or put into a dresser. It's a mess, and you see something you want to wear, pick it up, and smell it to see if its clean. Bad habit, yeah. Maybe you do laundry on a regular basis, but don't get around to sorting it all out, or putting it away (I rarely even match up my socks). So now, on your floor, or piled inside indistinguishable laundry baskets are clean and dirty clothes scattered in your room. I've got a really simple solution, and really, it should have crossed my mind a long time ago.

The solution, is about as easy as it gets. When you take off your dirty clothes, to throw them in the pile of otherwise untidy clothing, just turn the dirty stuff inside out. That way, when it comes time to clean that smelly mess, you'll know exactly whats clean and what's dirty. Simple as that. Just remember to turn them right side out again when you wash 'em, whether before or after is up to you.
